Born Phebean Oluwafunmilola Awolola in Lagos, Nigeria, Funmi Reks grew up under the spiritual mentorship of her parents, Apostle Awolola and the late Deaconess Awolola. She is the fourth of five children and the second daughter in her family. Her love for music was cultivated early; she joined the adult choir at the age of seven, encouraged by her mother to rise to the challenge and grow in grace and excellence.

Now based in the United Kingdom for over three decades, Funmi has refined her musical abilities, exploring genres such as jazz, funk, highlife, and soul, while remaining rooted in gospel. Beyond music, she holds qualifications in nursing, public health, and environmental safety, reflecting her deep commitment to service and care.
